Marketing and Communications Associate

Full-Time, Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY

The Literacy Cooperative is currently seeking a Marketing and Communications Associate. This full-time position is performed in a hybrid environment, three in-office days and two remote days per week for a 37.5 hour work week. The person reports to the Development Director. The starting salary is $40,000 with flexibility for related prior experience. This position works closely with all staff, board members, and volunteers to create and distribute engaging content to enhance awareness and understanding of The Literacy Cooperative’s work. Duties include keeping social media channels and website current and mission-focused, developing unique and compelling content for audiences, and creating and publishing electronic newsletters, white papers, and blog posts.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Manages communications channels, including Mailchimp, Click Send, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, and other relevant platforms
  • Works with staff, board members, partners, and community members to coordinate communications campaigns and social media strategies
  • Creates dynamic written, graphic, and video content for website and other digital platforms
  • Creates content specific to the communication platform that promotes audience interaction, increases audience presence on our sites, and encourages audience participation
  • Assists management to promote large projects, events, and community management
  • Develop, execute, and report on annual media campaigns for events, holidays, celebrations
  • Analyzes and reports audience information and demographics, and success of digital communications via web, email and social media
  • Uses timelines and scheduled content to create a consistent stream of new content for audience interaction while analyzing, managing, and altering schedules where necessary to optimize visits and growth
  • Assists with administrative support including but not limited to data entry, report writing, survey collection, and information verification

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or Public Relations preferred or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Adobe, Canva, WordPress, Little Green Light or other donor management program, MailChimp or similar services. Proficiency using reporting tools (like Hubspot). Experience with AI tools and best practices a plus
  • Proficiency using and creating in social media platforms
  • Strong proofreading, grammatical, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team as well as assume independent responsibilities
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with strong communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate several time-sensitive projects simultaneously without sacrificing accuracy and/or quality

OUR ORGANIZATION

The Literacy Cooperative’s mission is to advance literacy through raising awareness, advocating for public support of literacy initiatives, and strengthening the network to improve literacy across the lifespan. The Literacy Cooperative leads Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Cuyahoga County, a book gifting initiative that mails a brand new, age-appropriate, free to the family, book to enrolled children every month from birth until five years old, instilling a love of books and family reading from an early age. TLC shares information and resources with families through its social media channels, email communications, and family engagement workshops to help optimize their home literacy experiences and access services offered by partner organizations. TLC leads the 2Gen Collaborative consisting of service providers from early learning, adult literacy, workforce development, funders, and other community leaders to foster partnerships in whole-family services. TLC is working with partners to address the literacy needs of adults and children to maximize economic and occupational mobility.
