Professional Development

The Literacy Cooperative offers a diverse menu of trainings for literacy practitioners, volunteer tutors, and other cross-sector professionals. The Cooperative’s three focus areas of early literacy, capacity building and career pathways are reflected in training offerings that cover best practices & relevant issues in a hands-on, participatory approach. Training sessions provide an important opportunity for dialogue, networking, and exposure to new ideas and strategies from experts in the field. The Literacy Cooperative is committed to ongoing availability of high-quality, literacy-centered professional development for literacy practitioners and administrators.

Other professional learning programs and resources include:

Community of Practice (CoP)

This community will explore the development and connection of a warm referral network between early learning, adult education, workforce development, and human service organizations.

The Community of Practice is organized by volunteers that plan sessions and seek input and suggestions.  Volunteers plan two types of sessions throughout the year.  Four times a year sessions are dedicated to partner staff using Family Centered Coaching (FCC) techniques.  The sessions provide the opportunity to learn and master FCC through discussion, practice, and feedback.  The sessions include networking with peers and building a stronger referral relationship.  At least two times per year, volunteers invite providers to inform participants on available services and the process to refer candidates.

Objectives of the CoP include:

  • Build a professional circle for participant resources and peer support
  • Learn from provider panels about available services
  • Consider how to engage with partners for 2Gen work
