Letter/Sound Recognition & Alphabetic Principles in Early Literacy Development

Participants will receive an overview of letter and word recognition skills young children need to develop to become successful readers. We will explore easy ways to incorporate letter/sound recognition and skill development into programming. We will take a look at early alphabetic principles, what skills are expected for Kindergarten school readiness and what they look like in the Early Childhood classroom. Participants will receive many easy to use, limited material ideas to implement during their classroom routines and in play centers.

Presenter: Robbie Haic serves as the Curriculum Director and Literacy Specialist with Daily Dose of Reading since 2012. In this capacity, she has created 27 curriculum units of study focusing on early literacy skill development that are easily embedded into existing curriculum in most early childhood settings. DDR serves over 800 children enrolled in area Head Start centers presenting a Play and Learn literacy program to them one time each month. Robbie was an Intervention Specialist and Early Childhood Special Educator for 32 years in the public school setting. She earned a B.S. Elem. Ed., in Special Ed. and EEH degree from Bowling Green State University and a M.A. in Curriculum & Instruction from Ashland University.
