Engaging Writing Activities using Free Online Tools

After a year of teaching creative writing online, Lake Erie Ink’s Education Director, Cynthia Larsen, is back with some new digital activities to share with teachers.

Learn how to engage and motivate your students to write individually and collaboratively. Projects presented will include: using Google slides for informational research comics, using Google docs and Jamboard to improve writing and teach poetry, and how to write choose your own adventure stories. Need some fresh ideas and handy tools? This session will give you ideas you can implement right away.

PRESENTER: Cynthia Larsen is Lake Erie Ink’s co-founder and Education Director. She holds a BA in English with an emphasis in creative writing from Stanford University and an ELA teaching credential from San Francisco State University. Ms. Larsen taught in Jersey City, NJ; Oakland, CA; and Cleveland before attending graduate school at the University of Arizona, where she received her MFA in creative writing. Ms. Larsen has collaborated with teachers on project-based creative writing for over 15 years, combining her training in education with her passion for writing. At Lake Erie Ink, Ms. Larsen develops and implements creative writing curriculum that supports and meets the educational state standards for English and Language Arts.
