Let’s Celebrate Literacy!
Join us and keynote speaker Dr. Amy Acton at 5:30pm, April 16, 2025 at Cuyahoga Community College for the 2025 Read Across America Celebration.
Dr. Amy Acton is a physician and community leader who has spent over 35 years pursuing her passion for public health and wellness. She is in private practice in Preventive Medicine and Global Public Health. Whether as Director of the Ohio Department of Health during early days of the COVID pandemic, Vice President of Human:Kind at the Columbus Foundation, or professor in global public health, Dr. Acton has inspired interdisciplinary, cross-sector teams to address our most challenging issues and raise the bar higher, ensuring the community conditions in which all of us can flourish and realize our full potential.
During the event, you’ll hear from families positively impacted by our initiatives and witness the recognition of the fourth Kurt Karakul Literacy Award winner, Kids’ Book Bank. This $20,000 award, established by The Literacy Cooperative with a gift from the Third Federal Foundation, recognizes organizations advancing literacy in our community.
Sponsoring the event supports children in our community with free monthly, age-appropriate books while adults are provided the resources for the credentials and skills to secure meaningful employment.
