Trauma Informed Care
Educators know that their students come to school having had all kinds of lived experiences, including trauma.
We will explore how trauma impacts brain development as well as the long term educational, emotional, and physical impacts of trauma. We will investigate how resiliency can prevent and reverse the effects of trauma and how resiliency can be developed. We will discuss important considerations and practical tools when dealing with trauma including:
1) Emotional Granularity,
2) P.A.G.E.,
3) H.A.L.T., and
4) Trauma Contagion.
4) Trauma Contagion.
We will then practice non-violent communication (NVC) methods as a way to effectively communicate and prevent misunderstandings or re-traumatizing of your student and yourself. Finally we will transition into why restorative practices are important for all students, but particularly for students who have been exposed to trauma, and how to effectively restore!
At each stage of the presentation we will practice these skills with exercises for a variety of age groups.
