2026 Read Across America Week
Each year, The Literacy Cooperative joins the national celebration of Read Across America Week, a movement dedicated to inspiring a love of reading in children across the country. Read Across America Day, observed annually in early March, brings schools, libraries, and community organizations together to highlight the importance of literacy.
This year’s theme, Diverse & Inclusive Books, reminds us that every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories they read and to learn about experiences beyond their own. Books help children build empathy, confidence, curiosity, and belonging. When children see characters who look like them, speak their language, or share their experiences, reading becomes personal and powerful.

Diverse Books for Every Child
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library ensures children receive a high-quality, age-appropriate book each month from birth through age five. The book selections reflect a wide range of cultures, family structures, identities, and lived experiences — reinforcing the importance of diverse and inclusive storytelling.
