Throughout the day, participants engaged in dynamic sessions focused on instructional strategies, learner support, and removing barriers to educational attainment.
“I was impressed with the information I received. If it wasn’t mentioned, you wouldn’t know that this was the inaugural conference,” an attendee commented.
One of the most impactful moments of the day was a student panel discussion featuring Guylain, Jonni, and Denada, who earned their GED and/or English language skills through Seeds of Literacy and Cuyahoga Community College Ohio Options for Adults
Each panelist shared a unique journey marked by perseverance, resilience, and determination. They spoke about the barriers they faced; balancing personal responsibilities, navigating language barriers, and overcoming self-doubt. Passionately, they described the encouragement they received from tutors, educators, and supporters who helped make their goals feel achievable. The panelists expressed deep gratitude for the individuals who believed in them and provided steady guidance throughout their educational journeys.
Following the panel, participants attended professional learning sessions led by experts (see sessions and speakers here). Topics focused on effective instruction, learner engagement, and strategies to better serve adult students navigating complex life circumstances.

“It would be extremely valuable to have this training every year,” shared an attendee.
Many attendees left the Professional Development Day feeling inspired and reinvigorated. The combination of practical tools, peer connection, and direct student voice reinforced the importance of their work and the transformative power of adult education.
The day included time for networking over lunch, allowing educators to connect across organizations and share ideas. The closing session included a raffle that added an element of celebration and appreciation for those who dedicate their work to advancing adult literacy and education.
“Let’s do this again next year for sure,” said another participant.
