Alphabet Cards & Phonemes

Children need repeated exposure to letters and their sounds to master them. A great, simple tool to help children with that is alphabet cards!

Alphabet cards have each letter in capital and lowercase. You can use alphabet cards at mealtimes (or around the house) by placing out cards that match the beginning letters of items on the table. For example, “Ff” for fork or food, “Oo” for orange or orange juice, etc. This is called a phoneme – a speech sound.

When using alphabet cards, be engaging with your child, make it fun and meaningful to them!

You can say, “I see something on the table that starts with…” Then make the letter’s sound or beginning sound of the word and then name the letter.
